We are very pleased to announce Phil Anderson will make his first return to the Tour de France in some years and join the Ride International Tours team for a very special tour in 2020.
Starting and finishing in Nice our Tour de France – Côte d’Azur tour will take in both the French and Italian Riviera’s. Phil will take us back to the site where his professional cycling career began in 1981, the Tour de France started with 4 stages in Nice that year.
Astonishingly as a 22-year old, riding for the French Peugeot Team, Phil rode himself into the Yellow Jersey in his very first Tour de France on stage 5 to the Pla d’Adet in the Pyrenees. Phil continued to challenge Bernard Hinault for the overall win for most of race and finished 2nd in the Young Riders category and 10th place overall.
We’re very excited to have Phil join us on and off the bike for our 2020 Côte d’Azur – Tour de France tour. Phil has some fabulous stories to tell us of his racing and time he spent residing and training in Nice, he knows the area like a local.
This Tour de France tour enjoys the perfect combination of short transfers, an intimate size group, race viewing, rides on some of our classic routes, climbs, small roads – villages of the region and combines a great cultural, art experience to create the perfect mix for a superb Tour de France tour.
The 2020 Tour de France will be the 107th edition of the race around France. The start, known as the Grand Départ will be in Nice, France.
The opening two stages will head into the Pre-Alpes d’Azur just north of Nice, then loop back to finish in Nice each day on the stunning Côte d’Azur coastline. We’ll be there to see all of the action of these exciting landmark opening stages.
As the race organisers provide us with more details of the Tour de France race route, we’ll keep you updated and include plenty of access to the race.
