Ultimate Santos Festival of Cycling
In 2021, the Santos Festival of Cycling will feature a four-stage National Road Series Men’s and National Road Series Women’s race, which will take place from 21-24 January.

We’ll be there to see all of the race action across the many disciplines on offer at the new Santos Festival of Cycling.

DAY 1

DAY 1 WEDNESDAY 20TH JANUARY

ARRIVAL DAY – City Lookout, Waterfalls and TDU Village orientation loop

Pick up: Adelaide Airport
Airport pick up time: 10am – or meet at Hotel 11am
Our Arrival Day Ride: Start 12:30pm.
Distance: 50km. Climbing: 500m
Welcome Aperitif: 5pm
Accommodation: Adelaide City Centre, King William street – 4 or 5 Star Hotel options


More About Our Day:

Take an early flight to the Adelaide Airport. The Ride International Tours team will be there to meet you at the airport at 10am, alternatively, we’ll meet you at 11am at our Team Hotel or choose to stay a night prior at our team hotel. We’ll assist in building up your bike then head out for a ride.


Non-cycling options:

Explore our immediate south end precinct, or we have a tram stop directly in front of our hotel. Take a scenic tram ride in the direction of the Adelaide Oval, Festival Theatre, Museums, Art galleries, Rundle Mall shopping district or in the opposite direction head toward the beachside village of Glenelg, where you can take a swim, work on your tan, shop or relax on the golden sands of the beach.

Ask us for some options based on your personal interests, we have some great recommendations for Adelaide.


Our Ride: Orientation Ride, Mountain and Waterfall Loop: 50km – 500m climbing

Ride starts 12.30pm. A favourite loop ride of ours, to get the legs and lungs working for the days ahead on our Adelaide Hills Scenic Lookout and Waterfall loop. You’ll get your bearings from one of our great “secret lookouts”, you’ll enjoy unobstructed views back over Adelaide and it’s superb coastline.

We’ll traverse back through the city centre and stop by the City of Adelaide Tour Village to have a look at the Bike Expo, watch the team mechanics at work, or organise a test ride of the newest bikes with our friends in the village.

The ride distance although shortish today, has a couple of punchy little climbs to get you into the spirit of the Santos Tour Down Under. We’ll be out for a few hours including a visit to the City of Adelaide Tour Village.


 TDU Race: No Race Today – Get ready for tomorrow mornings early race start.

 Après Bike: Welcome Aperitif  

5pm:
Meet in Hotel Lobby,  we’ll head out for an informal welcome aperitif (non-inclusion) at one of our favourite locations only a short walk away. Our welcome aperitif, is a great way to meet up with other guests, staff and talk about the exciting week of the Santos Tour Down Under ahead.

DAY 2

DAY 2 THURSDAY 21ST JANUARY

STAGE 1 TDU:

Breakfast: 7am
Our Ride: Start 7:30am.
Distance: 50km, 60km, 100km. Climbing: 900m, 1050m, 1250m.
TDU Race:  Stage 1 Barossa Valley
Apres Bike: 6.30pm, Meet Hotel Lobby. Informal Dinner and Drinks


Our Rides: City – Barossa Valley. 50km, 60km or 100km. Climbing: 400m, 750m, 1000m.

Options aplenty again today. This morning we’ll traverse the northern Adelaide Hills foothills and ridge roads. We’ll pass through some of the Barossa Valley regions sleepier historic towns, en-route to Tanunda in the heart of the Barossa Valley.

We have plenty of distance options available depending on how much climbing you’d like to do, our vehicle will be there to support you. Once we arrive in the Barossa Valley we’ll catch the race as it loops through the Barossa Valley, we’ll see all the race action of Stage 1 of the Santos Festival of Cycling.


Non-Cycling Options: Adelaide Hills – Barossa Valley Wine Region

Join the group in our vehicle on a sightseeing drive through the northern Adelaide Hills, enroute to the famous Barossa Valley Wine region. You’ll meet up with the cycling group in the Barossa Valley to see the exciting first stage of the 2021 Santos Festival of Cycling.

Alternatively, ask us for some options based on your personal interests – we can generally infuse more of what you like into each day, maybe some wildlife spotting, a bushwalk – hike or explore Adelaide’s popular Museums, Galleries or Rundle Mall shopping district.


MORE ABOUT OUR DAY: Après race, we’ve organised a special visit to one of the Barossa Valley’s premier wineries for a wine tasting, we’ll visit our long time friends at Elderton Wines in Nurioopta.

Here’s what Alistair the owner and Co-Managing Director of Elderton Wines says we’ll experience on a visit to their award winning winery “we promise you a rare, authentic experience which includes a visit to our Command Shiraz vineyard planted in 1894 and culminates in tasting some very special wines including the highly regarded Elderton flagship, Command Shiraz”.

Many of Adelaide’s restaurants allow BYO (Bring Your Own wine), take the opportunity while we are at Elderton Wines Cellar Door to purchase some of their famous wines.

After our winery visit we’ll make our way back to the city via the scenic roads of Seppeltsfield in the Barossa Valley. It’ll be a great day of Tour Down Under, biking, sightseeing and sampling one of Australia’s premier wine regions.

6.30pm: Meet Hotel Lobby. Informal Dinner and Drinks (Non-Inclsuion). Tonight we’ll visit one of our favourite informal dinner spots, it’s a short walk from our hotels and serves a great array of good value local artisan wines, craft beers and produce. We’ve kept tonight as an informal / optional evening to suit your preferences.

DAY 3

DAY 3 FRIDAY 25TH JANUARY

Distance: 50km, 75km, 105km. Climbing: 700m, 1000m, 1600m
TDU Race: Stage 2 Adelaide Hills, Birdwood – Lobethal


Non-cycling options:

Join the group in our vehicles on a sightseeing loop of the beautiful Adelaide Hills, we’ll pause for coffee and explore the Birdwood stage start, it’s a unique town a real gem of the Adelaide Hills.

Enroute to Birdwood to watch all of the action of the Santos Tour Down Under, you’ll take the small roads and pass through many of the quaint towns, valleys and orchards of the Adelaide Hills. Watch the exciting final lap and stage finish at the historic town of Lobethal.

Our Rides: City – Adelaide Hills – City 

Plenty of distance and climbing options today’s, you may like to skip the first big climb up into the Adelaide Hills it’s nearly 20km, as we head straight up into the Adelaide Hills.

We regroup at the top of the first big climb into the Adelaide Hills then, then proceed on personally selected small roads to today’s stage start in Birdwood.

After the race commences we’ll traverse the Adelaide Hills towns and villages over to the days stage finish town of Lobethal. It’s sure to be exciting, we expect the overall race contenders to make their move today on this tough finishing circuit.

After the race finish we ride and follow the pro team riders, we head back to the city by bike, it’s a real buzz to follow the Pro’s down through the Adelaide Hills – or relax in the airconditioned comfort of our vehicles and head back to our team hotel.


 TDU Race: Stage 3 Adelaide Hills, Birdwood – Lobethal.

Women’s Race: Birdwood – Lobethal 97.3 km

Mens Race: Birdwood – Lobethal 116 km


 Après Bike:

After freshening up back at our hotel after a great day – it’s a free program tonight to explore Adelaide, it’s restaurants, bars and eateries – or if you fancy joining us we’ll be heading out for a social /informal dinner (non-inclusion) we invite you to join us – or relax and put your feet up in your spacious apartment and enjoy your favourite home cooking.

Alternatively, we’ve got plenty of great suggestions, we are based in the south end precinct where you can step out the door for great Italian, Greek, Asian, Gastro Pub or Australian fusion food. Let us know your preferred food types, budget and dining style! We’ll point you in the right direction for great local places.

DAY 4 SATURDAY 23rd JANUARY

STAGE 3 TDU: King of the Mountain Stage

Breakfast: 7am
Our Ride: Start 7:30pm.
Distance: 60km, 85km, 145km. Climbing: 500m, 1200m, 1900m.
TDU Race: Stage 3, Mclaren Vale – Willunga Hill
Accommodation:  Adelaide City Centre, King William South – 4 or 5 Star Hotel.


Our Rides: Adelaide Hills – King of the Mountain

Distance: 65km, 85km, 140km. Climbing: 500m, 1200m, 1500m.

This morning we head south of Adelaide to McLaren Vale to see the race, we then make our way to Willunga and up the KOM Willunga Hill climb. With our Offical Travel Specialist tickets we’ll be there to see the Willunga Hill stage finish.

After the excitement of the race finish, we offer an optional fast pace, return ride back to the city.

We’ve got plenty of great suggestions, we are based in the south end precinct where you can step out the door for great Italian, Greek, Asian, Gastro Pub or Australian fusion food. DAY 5

DAY 5 SUNDAY 27TH JANUARY

STAGE 3

Breakfast: 7am
Our Ride: Start 7:30pm.
Distance: 50km, 80km, 105km. Climbing: 700m, 1300m, 1600m.
TDU Race: Stage 4, City Circuit Criterium


If you are flying out today – when we return to the city from our rides, we’ll assist you to pack your bike and transfer you to the Adelaide airport for your flight home – * Flights out after 9.30pm*.

If you aren’t flying out tonight – that’s a very good idea, Adelaide Airport will be busy, we’ll offer a Monday morning Airport transfer.

Non-cycling options:

8am: Join the group in our vehicles on a sightseeing loop of Adelaide’s beautiful white sandy beaches. We’ll pause at one of our favorite beaches for a photo stop and to dip your toes into the beautiful blue waters.

We head back to our team hotel prior to taking a drive to the highest point in the Adelaide Hills – The Mt Lofty Lookout, or Alternatively, ask us for some options based on your personal interests – we can generally infuse more of what you like into each day, maybe some wildlife spotting, a bushwalk – hike or explore Adelaide’s popular Museums, Galleries or explore the Rundle Mall / Rundle Street shopping districts.

Our Rides: Morning: Coastal Loop – City, Plus optional Adelaide Hills Highest Point and Lookout

Distance: 50km, 80km, 95km. Climbing: 200m, 1100m, 1400m.

City Beaches ride where we’ll show you the best coastal roads and white sand beaches of Adelaides coastline. We then head through the city and past our hotel. The second part of our ride day being an “optional ride” into the Adelaide Hills to the highest point and superb lookout at Mt Lofty.


 TDU Race: Trek Stage 4, Victoria Park.

Women’s Race: Lap 1.1km Criterium Circuit (60 mins + 1 lap)

Men’s Race: Lap 1.1km Criterium Circuit (60 mins + 1 lap)


Après Bike: 

Meet Hotel Lobby: 3.30pm.
We’ll wander over to the Victoria park Circuit, en route we’ll pass through the Hutt St precinct for a pre-race snack and drink.

Apres race if you choose to stay an additional night (recommended), although it’s a free program to explore Adelaide, it’s restaurants, bars and eateries, we’ll be heading out for a social /informal dinner (non-inclusion), we’ll make a plan for dinner – feel free to join us, it’s a great night to relax knowing there’s no early start for a ride, there’s always plenty to do and celebrations to be had on the final night of the Tour Down Under for another year.

You’ll spend the famous race days of the Tour of Flanders and Paris Roubaix on a VIP experience with Phil Anderson as we follow the races in our vehicles. Champagne – gourmet picnic lunch’s included enroute during both classics.

Phil was based in Belgium for much of his early pro cycling career, he was passionate about doing well in these early season Spring Classics races, including winning the Amstel Gold Race, 2nd at the Tour of Flanders and many podium places in the one-day monument races.

Our experience allows us to see the races at multiple viewing points en route, including being at the finish of the Paris – Roubaix in the velodrome.

PAT FITZPATRICK

Director of Ride International Tours – With a keen passion for improving riders fitness and technique in Road biking, MTB, Gravel and Cx riding. Originally Pat hails from Adelaide, South Australia, but resides half the year in Brunswick, Melbourne Australia – The balance of the year is spent in Europe hosting tours, while in Europe he's based out of lovely small medieval Spanish village, Solsona near the Pyrenees mountains.

When not on tour, Dadding is the priority - doing the bins, clothes washing, dishes and cleaning up after our very energetic young twin daughters.

Riding and racing from when I could walk, racing since the age of 7. BMX, Motorcross, Mountainbike XC, Downhill, 4cross, Road and criterium racing. Coaching and improving riders in their fitness and technique since 1997

Advance Bookings:

We open up our Advance Reservations for trips so you can book well ahead. Guarantee your position by booking up to 12 months prior.

If you’d like to organise and book your trip more than 12 months prior, contact us via email or phone, we’ll arrange everything so you can make an advanced early booking.

An advance booking, accompanied by a fully refundable $750 AUD (Australian Dollar) ensures priority booking status when the trip details are announced. Note, an advance booking is not considered final until payment is received.

Once specific trip itinerary details are finalized, we’ll contact everyone on the advance reservation list via email, we’ll include the itinerary and offer a priority booking position before opening up bookings to the wider community.

If a trip fills – as it often does in the advance bookings, we create a waiting list and then offer reservations on a first-come, first-serve basis (based on the date the advance reservation was made) once our advanced booking guest have finalised.

To cancel an advance reservation a cancellation request must be submitted in writing/ via email within 14 days of the trip details being published. The (AUD) $750 advance reservation payment will be immediately refunded for any cancellation received within this 14-day period.

Payments

We offer increased payment flexibility – Book your cycling escape with confidence.
Payments from June 2020 onward are 100% refundable, should you need to alter your travel plans due to unforeseen Covid19 issues

Final Payments:

The balance of your trip payment is due no later than 120 days prior to your trip departure date, we will forward via email your final payment invoice. You can choose to make full payment earlier if you prefer to finalise your trip payment early, contact us and we will arrange for an invoice to be sent.

What if I have to transfer, change or cancel my trip:
We understand you may not be able to go on your trip, cancel, change or transfer due to personal or medical reasons. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to transfer to another trip that has places available. If you have a question give us a call or email.

Due to the high demand, limited hotel availability and the advance payments expected by our hotels and restaurants we use, the following cancellation conditions apply to all of our trips.

AFTER BOOKING, IF YOU CANCEL:

120 – 91 days prior to departure 50% cancellation fee of the trip price
90 – 61 days prior to departure 75% cancellation fee of the trip price
60 days and less prior to departure 100% cancellation fee of the trip price
