On the bike we will head up the impressive river valley for approx. 10km, where we will begin the climb of the famous Passo Mortirolo.
The Mortirolo is considered to be one of the best climbs in Italy and many professionals consider it to be one of the most difficult mountains, it’s often referred as being the “Queen climb of Europe”, Lance Armstrong referred to it as the hardest climb he’d ever ridden. So today is your chance to add your name to the list of people who have climbed it, we believe most recreational riders can achieve it, or parts of the climb, and with our support ride as much as they are comfortable with, then enjoy the second part of the ride up the beautiful river valley.
From the summit of the Mortirolo we take an alternative route down to the valley below, it’s safer, and very scenic. We then ascend a long yet relaxed river valley climb to our Alpine hotel.

More about our day
This morning we will be away from the hotel early after breakfast. Hopefully, you have something left in your legs after yesterday! We are off to climb the Stelvio, we rate it as one of Top 5 Climbs in the world, and one of the highest climbs in Europe. The Passo Stelvio climb sits among a spectacular landscape, it is truly breathtaking.
Bordering Switzerland at an elevation of 2,757m above sea level, it is the highest paved mountain pass in the Eastern Alps, and the second highest in the Alps, 13 m below France’s Col de l’Iseran (2,770 m).

The landscapes are spectacular, be on the lookout for the cheeky marmots in the higher plain grass areas en route to the top, get a selfie in front of the Passo Stelvio Sign, enjoy a hot chocolate and a spot of gift shopping from the Chalets at the top of Stelvio. Return to our hotel in the afternoon with plenty of free time to explore our local village.
Our Rides 45km – 70km [or 105km]
Climbing 1600m – 2600m [3250m]
Plus, Optional Extras Available
Option 1: Passo Stelvio out and back: 45km -1600m
*Recommended Route: This morning we will be away from the hotel early to climb the Stelvio, one of the most well-known cycling roads in the world, one of the highest climbs in Europe.
Passo Stelvio is a big favourite of everyone at Ride International, it’s one of our favourite rides anywhere in the world, you’ve likely waited a lifetime to ride it, our advice is to slow down, lift your head up and soak in the beautiful, unique surrounds, it’s far too nice to ride at your max looking at the handlebars – enjoy the day, enjoy the experience.
The Passo dello Stelvio ascent is 21.5 km long. Over this distance, you climb 1533 metres at an average of 7.1%. It’s not the hardest climb you will ever do, yet it’s at high altitude.
We return on the Stelvio descent, pause often to take it all in, and enjoy this amazing place as there are some incredible uninterrupted vistas, landscapes and photos to be had in this unique remote area. We encourage everyone to not “race” down the descent, ride safely and really absorb the region’s beauty, you won’t see anything else like it in Italy, or possibly the world. We can assist with some technical tips for descending and cornering too, should you like to improve your efficiency, bike skills, confidence and safety while descending.
If you feel like a few optional extras today – we have a favourite, little secret climb for you to do too.
Once we’ve completed the Passo Stelvio, you can head back out to the Climb to the mini Stelvio, Torri di Fraele. It’s a beautiful climb of about 15km with incredible switchbacks leading up to an old Alpine fort. From the top the views down over the valley and the unique road you just cycled up are amazing.
Alternatively, if you are feeling particularly strong on the bike, we have another recommended option up our sleeve which goes over the Swiss Umbrail Pass and comes back over the Stelvio Pass from the northern side before descending back down to our hotel. This is a very tough 105km loop ride with climbing ranging from 2000m – 3250m depending on your chosen ride start point. We’ll talk you through all the options once we’re in Bormio and you’ve had a few days riding in the big mountains to see how you are going.
Free Program Tonight. Explore the town and its centre, where you can choose from a number of eateries, restaurants, or informal dining depending on how you’re feeling. We have plenty of great recommendations depending on your preferred cuisine.

Another wonderful day in the Italian Dolomites.
The Sella Ronda loop is an absolute classic cycling route, famous around the world, we are happy to talk it up as it’s one of the most scenic loop rides you’ll likely ever do.
We love the Sella Ronda loop so much, we’ve named it “The Best 60km Loop Ride in the World”. The loop itself traverses four famous mountain passes through scenery that genuinely deserves the word ‘dramatic’, as the bulk of the Piz Boè Peak looms above you.
Take the time to stop regularly, soak it all in, enjoy, and take plenty of photos – it’s a day you will remember fondly for many years to come.
After the Sella Ronda loop we will return down the valley to our hotel by bike.

Today’s climb and region are steeped in Giro d’Italia folklore. The final mountain stage of the 2024 Giro did two full loops of the Monte Grappa. Monte Grappa is a beautiful climb, and the Veneto region is a lovely place to visit and ride.
Today, there is no time pressure for us; we can take our time on our beautiful Monte Grappa loop. After the climb, we roll back through our village to experience the historic centre and the famous wooden bridge that spans the Brenta River. We have ample time to soak in the surroundings and the Veneto region.

More about our day
This morning we leave our hotel in the Veneto region, we have 2 transfer options with 3 drop-off points.
Option 1: Venice has an international airport and train station, which is a 90-minute transfer from our hotel. We drop guests off at the Airport first, then make our way to Venice Mestre train station.
If you’ve never been to Venice, consider staying overnight (or two) and enjoy walking the lactic acid out of your legs and explore this beautiful city by foot or boat.
Venice is a unique city, we love it, it has no cars, bikes, or scooters. Just pedestrians and boats. It has over 400 bridges, 100 natural islands and around 50km of waterways. An incredible place and worth the visit.
*Top Tip: If you stay overnight, wake up at dawn and explore the working Venice before the tourists are out – you’ll have the whole place to yourself. If your legs are tired, you can always take the waterbuses.
Option 2: A 5–6-hour transfer [traffic dependent] back to our first hotel near Milano, we collect and pack your bike bags for your onward travel. After we’ve completed packing you all up, it’s off to the airport.
Airport drop-offs to Milan Malpensa are also included today. We suggest the earliest flight departures from Milan Malpensa Airport should be no earlier than 8.30pm. This will give you a comfortable three hours from check-in, prior to your flight departure.
